Bio/Short Description

Noam Chomsky is a renowned scholar, philosopher and linguist, author of numerous books, including Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media, written in 1988 with Edward Herman. In this book, the authors propose that the mass communication media are powerful ideological institutions that carry out a system-supportive propaganda function, by reliance on market forces, internalized assumptions, and self-censorship and without overt coercion. The title derives from the phrase "the manufacture of consent", employed in the influential book by Walter Lippmann, written in 1922.
