Someone, other than children,
Someone, other than children, was paying attention to Saturday morning television. That someone was Peggy Charren. She gathered like-minded, concerned parents and fought for change. That change resulted in the 1990 Childrens Television Act, which advocated for more informational and educational programming.

Since I worked in TV news
Since I worked in TV news (early in my career), I learned of the quality writing and broadcasting of Edward R. Murrow. His name is now synonymous with excellence in the broadcasting industry. Many books have been written about Murrow. My favorite is this compendium of his TV scripts: "See It Now- A Selection in Texts and Pictures."

The issue of TV violence and its impact on viewers has always been of interest. That's why I followed the work of George Gerbner. He spoke often of the influence of TV and was a well respected scholar and researcher.

I heard Barrie speak at one
I heard Barrie speak at one of the US media literacy conferences and immediately began to secure everything he wrote. I still have on my shelf the excellent text "Real Images Film & Television." He has had a tremendous impact on education in Australia and beyond. He was appropriately honored with the NTC lifetime achievement award.

Schramm's text "Quality on Educational Television" was considered THE bible for many who worked in education and instructional TV. I became aware of his work and followed his research.

I became aware of Dale's work by reading "Audio Visual Methods in Teaching" from 1946. Since I was involved in the selection and purchase of AV materials for the OCPS (Orlando FL) school system, his work and research were important guide posts.

I first heard John speak at
I first heard John speak at the media literacy conference in Los Angeles. His depth of knowledge was immense. He has been at the forefront of helping educate Canadians and others understand media literacy. His work and dedication demonstrate his comittment.
